Driving on a road in Badlands National Park I saw a hawk swoop down toward an object on the road, and then scared off by a car. The car passed over the object, which turned out to be a prairie rattle snake. I got out of the car and took this photo. The snake appeared to be uninjured, but did not rattle. Had it been a turtle I would have helped it across the road, but I didn't want to spend the night in the hospital.
