One of the giant Bur Oaks (Quercus macrocarpa) of Oshkosh, this oak probable predates the city by decades. One never knows the true age of such a tree unless it is cut down. There is no doubt it is old, at least for a tree east of the Mississippi. They make a great urban tree. They are strong, long-lived, and provide food and shelter for wildlife.
