Burdock (Arctium spp.) are not native species in the United States. It is one those obnoxious plants that can leave you close full of burs. They have an annoying affinity for shoelaces, and dogs. Still they are interesting plant and their flowers are quite beautiful in a way. This is one of the plants rumored to be the inspiration of Velcro, and it is easy to see why. If it were not for its prickly nature burdock flowers would probably make a good fly for largemouth bass.
