This Yellow-headed Blackbird (Xanthocephalus xanthocephalus) nest photo looks like it is on its side, but it seems it is the nest that it is on its side. The previous year’s cattail stems have tipped over. However at the time this photo was taken the chicks don’t seem to mind. As I walk past counting tern nests one of the chicks throws its head back and begs for some food. Sorry little guy, I don’t have a mouth full of insects today, just cattail chaff and fluff.
